SYD'S STORY ~ CH/LUX CH SUPETA’S OZZY OSBOURNE JW

Born on 17.2.07 Syd was the result of an outcross his sire being Ch Korifey iz Zoosfery who was in himself a tightly bred dog doubling up on Multi Ch Graaf Quinton v Neerlands Stam.  Syd’s dam is  Ch Supeta’s Enuf Alredi JW (Keira) whose pedigree includes the two imports Nemesis Feo v Koepsel at Sallate and Victor v Roveline (2 dogs that have featured strongly within our breeding programme and with much success) and a doubling-up of the breeding that produced both our own

Ch Supeta’s Orangina and Wendy Burge’s Jowendy’s Wild Child.  These bitches were both sired by Ch Jowendy’s Kilowatt

out of  litter sisters Ch Jowendy’s Kia-Ora and Jowendy’s Boogie Shoes,  and formed the basis of the bottom

bitch line of both the sire and dam of Keira.

Keira’s co-owners Sarah Smith and Tracey Bennett had pick of litter and we decided that it would be Syd –

and that, as they say, was how it all began ...

Syd had 5 BPIB as a puppy the last one being at Crufts 2008 where he also took the

RCC to add to the one taken earlier in the year at SEEDC.

Syd’s first champ show as a Junior was at WELKS and we couldn’t quite believe it when the Judge – Billy Henderson – walked towards him and handed me his first CC at the tender age of 14 months.  Little did we know what was to follow.  His next champ show was SKC under Chris Hollands and he not only took his 2nd CC but BOB as well.  At his next 3 of the 4 champ shows attended Syd won his class and took the RCC.  Then it was onto Blackpool – I’ll never forget it as Margaret Wildman gave him the BOB as a committee member was shouting to everyone to ‘get out of the marquee’s and evacuate the showground’ as the show was abandoned due to the high winds.

So Syd was a Champion at the tender age of 16 months. Syd took a further 3 CC’s that year and at Midland Counties he was 2nd in the group. He finished the year on a real high by taking his first Group win, followed by RBIS at LKA 2008.

I suppose you could say that 2009 was a quiet year by comparison but Syd still clocked up a further 6 CC’s and 5 RCC’s as well as gaining his Luxembourg title from only 2 visits to Europe.  He finished 2009 as runner-up Top Male Dobermann and, having been used by several prominent breeders he was also TOP SIRE – ALL BREEDS .

2010 started with the Dog CC & BOS at Crufts.  His second group win came at Bath, followed quickly by another at East of England.  By the end of the year he had clocked up a total of 14 CC’s (taking his total to 26) and also a Group 4 at W&PBAS and Group 1 again at LKA.  He finished 2010 as Top Dobermann and was 4th overall in the Working Group.  He had also become the sire of 2 champions – Ch Amazon El Torro and Ch Jojavik Mafioso.

2011 was something of a whirlwind.  He took the CC at the first two champ shows of the year and it was finally his turn at Crufts when he took the CC, BOB and went onto Group 3.  He then took 10 more CC’s with BOB at all but one and that elusive record of the fantastic  Ch Sallate Ferris suddenly started to look attainable!  He took his 5th Group and went onto BIS at W&PBAW and the day after he was BIS at Welsh Dobe Club.  3 more Group wins and a Group 4 were added to his tally  and his first champion daughter – Ch Tuwos Hrana – was also made up. A further group win at East of England, the Group and BIS at NW&PBA and the CC & BOB at Leeds meant that he had equalled the record with 41 CC’s.

And so it was on to Paignton.  First we won Open Dog and then came the dog challenge – I would swear that everyone could hear my heart pounding as the judge, Jeff Horswell,  took us through our paces and I actually thought I would pass out as he went to the table to pick up the CC.  As he walked towards me the noise from the crowd was deafening and Syd became the new UK BREED RECORD HOLDER at just 4½ years old.  He went on to top off what was a truly memorable day by taking the BOB and his 11th Group win.  His supporters stayed till the end of the day and cheered him on with gusto and they lifted the roof off when Brenda Banbury pointed to the Top Spot – we were so proud of him.

Syd went on to complete the year with a flourish.  He took  a further 8 CC’s and 2 Group wins with  RBIS at Belfast. It seemed fitting that he should finish the year at LKA by taking his 50th CC and he then went onto BOB and Group 4 confirming him as RUNNER UP TOP DOG ALL BREEDS 2011.  His success as a stud dog was also proven when he became TOP WORKING STUD & 9th overall.

Throughout 2012 & 2013 Syd continued to add to his fantastic record with a further 19 CC’s & 6 RCC’s and numerous other group wins and placings.  He was Runner-up at the Contest of Champions in 2013 and finished TOP DOBERMANN for the fourth year in a row and TOP WORKING STUD (4th overall) for the second time.

Although retired from mainstream showing in 2014 Syd made the odd appearance in veteran where he won a further 2 CC’s and a RCC along with BVIS at NECDS & BDDC Champ Shows.  Yet again he was TOP DOBERMANN STUD 2014.

He was officially retired at Crufts 2015 where he won Veteran Dog.

Syd really was that ‘once in a lifetime’ dog.  As a show dog his record is phenomenal and he will be part of dobermann history forever.  He wasn’t used excessively but from a total of about 30 litters he has produced 12 champions to date.  He was the sire of BOB at Crufts 2014  & 2015, brother and sister Ch Supeta’s Secret Wizard at Dronski JW ShCM and Ch Supeta’s Spells Trouble JW ShCM.  His impressive 'Roll of Honour' is listed above.

Syd was a ‘larger than life’ character whether at home or in the show ring.  He was a joy to show although he certainly

kept me on my toes and there was never a dull moment with him but he gave me the ride of my life and we reached

heights I could never have dreamed of.

It goes without saying we are immensely proud of his achievements both in and out of the ring.
Syd truly  was THE BOY WONDER and it really is THE END OF AN ERA
